About Richard

High school golf coach for many years. Retired educator in Oklahoma and Texas. I have been a golf professional for 24 years. Former Golf Coordinator for Northside ISD in San Antonio. Have given individual lessons for juniors, adult men and women, senior men and women, and have hosted golf camps for High School Golf Coaches for 15 years.

As a retired educator and PGA member, I feel especially qualified to assist golfers at all levels of ability. In most of my lessons I use an IPad Pro with V1 software to record and then analyze players’ golf swings. The analysis is then emailed to the player for their use over and over as they improve. In this way, not only can players swings be compared to the V1 models, but they can also be compared to their own previous swings to enable the player to see his or her own progress.

Learning how to improve a players' game takes effort and commitment! I therefore see it as my responsibility to give a player the tools to not just practice in front of me or at the range, but also I usually give a number of training techniques that don't require a golf ball or a trip to the course. Often, effective training processes can be used at home, in the garage, in the back yard, and often with inexpensive items. I use quite a few training aides in my lessons to demonstrate the feel of a technique.

I have several drills and explanations of drills that help convey important features of successful putting, chipping, pitching, full swing, and even scoring. I encourage my students to learn not just why they are missing shots, but methods by which they can unlearn the bad habits they have now and replace them with better techniques so they can begin the often gradual process of improvement.

Having worked for years with teenagers and players who are on competitive golf teams, I can explain how to learn to play for score, rather than just hitting shots on the range. I visited Japan and played golf with some Japanese golfers and discovered that because of the cost to play, many have never played on a golf course, they are "range" players only. Many golfers in our country are so self-conscious of their ability, that they limit themselves in the same way. I try to show newer players ways to get out on the course painlessly so they can really learn to enjoy our wonderful game.
