Lucas grew up in Moorhead, MN and has been in and around the game of golf his whole life. He played his high school golf at Shanley High School in Fargo for his grandfather, Don Johnson who coached there for 30+ years. After graduating, he went on to play for North Dakota State University for four years from 2017-2021. During his time there, he helped the team win the first ever conference tournament in school history in 2017 as well as multiple regular season team wins. He had a succssful amature carreer, earning medalist honors at tournaments like the Pine To Palm and the Birchmont. As a professional, he has continued his success with multiple wins at Minnesota Section PGA Assistants events and is a 2 time participant of the Assistant PGA Professional Championship, a national tournament for all PGA Assistants where he made the cut in 2025.
Lucas is the current Assistant Golf Professional at Suite Shots and is a Level 2 PGA Associate working towards his Class A membership with an emphasis on teaching and coaching. As the Assistant Professional at the Suite Shots Golf Academy, Lucas provides private instruction for adults (18+) and juniors (10-17), group instruction, junior golf camps, adult learn-to-play programs and club fittings.
Lucas takes a balanced approach to his teaching style. Using a mix of training aids and new technology, there's something for every golfer and learning style. Whether you are a beginner golfer or a high level amature, his balanced approach will ensure your goals are met and there is a roadmap for success when it comes to your journey as a golfer.
"Growing up, all I wanted to be in life was a golf professional. I wanted to help grow the game of golf as well as succeed in playing. My time at NDSU showed me what it takes to play at the highest levels and the technology at Suite Shots gives me the method to level the playing field. My goal is to put Fargo on the map for a hotspot for golf. This town has such a passion for the game, and I hope to use that passion to open doors for people and show the level of talent we have here."
