About Rusty

**Summer Weather Update:** Because of the heat and humidity of July and August - I'm going to offer to students the availability of having lessons earlier and later in the day. I'll go from 7am until 11am (with the last starting time of 10am) and then go from 4pm until 8pm (with the last starting time of 7pm).

**Booking Cutoff**: Please note there is a lead time of three (3) days to book a lesson. For example, if you try to book a lesson on Wednesday for a TH or F the website will offer available times for you starting on Saturday of that week. Another example, would be if you try to book a lesson on Thursday for a F or SA lesson the website will offer available times for you starting on the following Wednesday of the next week. If you have further questions about the lead time please contact me through the website portal. Thank you.

**Reminder**, **for any student after the lesson**. If you want to review your lesson by: hitting a small bucket, do some short game shots or putting drills – have at it. But please don’t schedule a tee time for the same day after your lesson – in 90% or more of the time you won’t play better because your mind and body have usually been given some changes that will take at least a few practice sessions to absorb. I have this happen a few times every year with students and finally I just decided to tell it like it is – this summer. You will thank me later.

**Let's have a conversation first:** If you have been watching You Tube or TikTok (etc.) and/or reading golf magazines and listening to your golf friends and have become confused – I’m here to help. I’d like to just start by having a conversation with you (or two of you) for up to a ½ hour (absolutely no charge) in the grill or outside on one of the patios to hear your concerns, before any golf lessons, go ahead & bring your clubs.

To schedule “a conversation about your golf game” go find the Message Board within this portal write a note to me with a couple of days and times that work for you … within the followig time perimeters for my July and August schedule: weekdays W, TH or F: Between: 12 noon and 3pm.

Saturday: it’s usually our busiest day for play and our practice areas, plus around the clubhouse. Normally for me it’s a make-up day for students because of weather or work/family conflicts. It can also be a good time to meet with people who can’t get away from work or other obligations during a normal 5 day week. Usually, there is some availability between 11 am and 1 pm to talk. Occasionally, a large wedding and/or reception can impact parking and outside seating in the afternoon.

**Continuity:** My lesson packages are all now either 3 lessons or 1 lesson. So the amount of the actual lesson time committment is 3 weeks - 1 hour, 1 day per week. With hope and prayer that you will practice at home in mirror for 5 minutes twice a day, every day for 3 weeks and get out and practice hitting (drills) shots 2 or 3 times a week.

**Bio:** _"I couldn’t break 100 until I was 14—three years later, I won the junior club championship_ **-** _thanks to a great coach and a refusal to quit. That journey shaped everything I do as a coach today.”_

Key point for students: "I don’t want my students to have to go through what I went through! It’s a beautiful game, but its a little easier if we learn the fundamentals the right way the first time or at least the 2nd time.”

“I was fortunate enough to grow up in Lynchburg at a respected CC; played some high school golf and then a bit of college golf @ UR. After summer school(s) were over … I was able to compete at various amateur events for several years: the Payton Memorial, the Fox-Puss, the Eastern Amateur and the VSGA Amateur & Open.”

My previous professional golf experience includes owning and operating a nine-hole Par 3 and covered driving range as the General Manager, PGA Head Professional and Lead Instructor having taught over 8,000 private and group lessons. “I’ve spent most of my teaching career coaching new golfers of all ages and genders; my mission is to make the learning curve less frustrating and a lot more fun.” I've been a Class ‘A’ PGA Golf Professional for over 30 years and have an active status as a Life Member of the PGA.
